yeah~!!! i'm officially recovered! fast sia!!! hahah... still abit crampish lar.. but definitely well ler.. u noe why? bcos i feel damn HUNGRY all the time!! haahaha...

suppose to go to this community clinic..@ BaJaiBah..(i tink tt's how it's spelt)... someone fr e hospital will go once a week.. it's even more rural n all the ppl who go, esp kids, have severe malnutrition... suppose to b moi turnz tis week... but cos down liao.. so lz took over.. quite happening todae sia.. 4 ppl went..lz, 2 interns n e jnr doc - paul. i'll go next week!!!! i tink w Sema (pronounced as Sam-ma) another family med registrar..same as Mary...

the OPD was less busy todae.. Dr Jeff asked me if we wanted to go along w his family to Harid-War...this pilgramage place @ e start of e Ganges.. suppose to b the cleanest part of the Ganges.. cos according to mArKy.. the lower part Varanasi where lotsa ppl bathe in is the most toxic.. keke...toxic... gross lar..
BUT then we din go in e end.. cos sms-d LZ.. n she had NO reception.. n she definitely wun b back @ 4 when dr Jeff n his family leaves.. so there went our overnight trip... so sad.. too bad... =Pp

then Jaspreet asked us if we wanted to go dehra dun w him, sema n sameer (sa-meeeerrr).. but then lz not back too.. n mary was too tired to cover sema, who was covering for paul cos it is paul's call todae.. so din go lor..

n e trip w sam n paul n mary which was suppose to b yest, got postponed todae cos mary was on call yest... which is postponed yet again cos paul on call todae... hahah

so 3 THREE trips *poof* down e drain... so sad!! then we wanted to go sema's room to watch School of Rock. cos he got it in his laptop.. BUT!!!! we realised tt they went dehra dun in e end!!!!! AARRRHHH!!! so sad!!! we coudln't go anyway.. no place in jaspreet's car liao le.. bleah.. =(
oh jaspreet washed his car todae! haha.. his last week here liao.. on the 30th april he'll b heading home cos his 2 months of surgical training wld b over... we'll all miss him man.. he's damn funny.. bo dua bo sui one hahah jus dare dare do everything like trying to borrow the official vehicle to drive all of us to dehra dun cos it's bigger (of coruse he wasn't allowed to..), e way he n his wife got their driving license!! tt's one of the best man!! ( jus walked into the office n haf tea w the head of the registry).. viewing every abdomen as a case to operate on (like all surgeons.. haha), playing w the PA system @ opd... oh my gosh!! i sound like i'm paying a tribute to him!! hahaha... but he's damn farni lar seriously.. n he n sema taught mark how to diagnose a gay man..w all the minor n major criterias hahaha.. can roll on e ground n laugh until tummyache..

Dr Laji's wife - Dr Meena jus gave birth todae @ 4.15pm to a healthy baby boy! second child! their eldest-David (3yo) is still in oblivion... not knowing tt his reign of tyranny is over... kekek..

e kids here are all v cute... actually kids are all damn cute. haha

hope sema comes back soon man!! we wanna watch movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

duno why keep wakin up at nite here.. haven had a proper nite's sleep since i reached india.. jus e oppo fr lz.. everytime i wake up she'll be talking ... dun tink is to me.. haha in her dreams.. sometimes i'll even talk to her.. jus for the fun of it hahah..

goign for dinner.. 8pm now..wwhheee!! we had FISH yest!!! FISH!!! finally seafood after like 2.5 weeks!! hahaha

~Mussoorie tRip~ =)...but.... dOwN...siGhZzz....

sigh.. down.. w tummyache.. everything tastes bland bland bland..actually i dun even feel like eating... bleah..

went to Mussoorie on sat..set off at arn 445pm.. stopped for a while @ Dehra Dun - a big town... n had coffee!!! 1st coffee since arrivingin in India! the north indians drink tea, not coffee.. n the south drink coffee.. i haf no inkling why is tt.... had caramel ice blended.. shiok!! n onli cost 38 Rupees... which is like Sg$1.2.. keke...e shop was quite nice too haha like coffeebean in Sg.. rare sight here when everything is jus dusty n dirty... getting used to it ... my room is perpetually dusty...
there was a traffic jam @ DD cos there was some big fancy procession.. n the 2 Gurus sitting high up on their horse-drawn carraiges were SLEEPING!!!! best! esp when e procession was like for them?!?! jam lor.. jam..

reached Mussoorie abt 8pm... took abt 3 hrs to go there... the journey up the mountain was TORTOUS... luckily i downed TWO tablets b4 tt.. lotsa ppl became nauseas..Dr bena had to stop the van to throw up... jus in time!... there were 10 of us : 8 females - Me, Lz, Mary, Jubin, Kripa, Bena, Chai-yah and Vandana & 2 males- Mark n Bijoy... heh... we all squeezed into this minivan.. hahaha...

sunset on the way as we travelled up was beautiful.. would haf been better if the ride wasn't so bumpy n windy.. heh.. but compromise lar... the city lights down below as we gained height, grew more n more... like a mass of twinkling stars albeit on the ground.. they were pretty but i couldn't get them on camera.. sadly...

walked abt 45mins b4 we reached The Four Seasons restaurant where we met Dr Koshy n Dr Lydia who were there on a weekend retreat... quite fun =) the food was SUMPTIOUS!!!!!!! yum yum yum!!! we each ordered a different dish n jus passed the food around... n it only cost 100/- Rs EACH!!! then had HOT coffee!!! n then ice cream!!! hee hee... food fest man!!!

after dinner ~10+pm... we started heading for Landour Community Hospital - a Hillstation, where we were to spend the nite in a dormitory.. the walk up was cooling and slow..was quite nice... finally reached the hospital @1130!!! hahaha
all of us were so tired!! took turns to use the 2 toilets to wash up... Kripa jus konked out once she touched her bed.. din even wash up hee hee... Jubin also KO fast...
e rest followed quite soon. haha me n mark still managed to play 2 rounds of dai di n 2 rounds of bridge b4 KO-ing... hahah

woke up @5am then prepared for the morning climb to view the HIMALAYAs...
finally..everyone was ready @645 n we set off! e climb up was abit like trekking.. shiok!! but onli for like the beginning 1/2 of the climb.. after tt we hit well-paved roads..which was good for most of us hahah... Vandana was quite taxed n she din haf any walking/sports shoes! but we took it slow n easy.. Bijoy was like sheep-herder haha waiting for everyone... Bena lead the way.. kRipa puffed on her rotahaler so she pulled thru =)

the scenery got better & better as we climbed higher n higher.. tink father & mother would love it... it's ridges after ridges of mountains skirted w terrace plantations... brEatHtaKing!!!!!!!!
we intruded into a private property n scuttled 'quickly' (took a few photos along the way.. tee hee) to this nice patch of grassy land jus @ the edge of a cliff... jus like in My Sassy Girl! (9am) the view from there is indescribable!!! It's these moments tt make one marvel at God's ability to create... the land, the sky, the mountains, the clouds, the flowers and birds... I was quite stunned into silence... even switzerland didin have this effect on me... mayb it was bcos i was 7,500feet in the air with the himalayas surrounding me, enclosing me in His love and warmth... i din feel cold at all! (ok i was in 5 layers =Pp but i'm prepared ya!! experienced k! =P )

was simply amazing!! i must go again before we leave this place...
we sat arnd, took MANY photos, sang some songs of praise, read a bible verse n prayed.
i talked to Him...twas peaceful...let go of quite afew things n made a few resolutions.. jus me n my Father (",)

my tummyache began on the way back.. it was jus a minor epigastric cramp to begin w...
Bijoy tricked some of us into taking a 'shortcut'..turned out to b a more time consuming, tension building, almost nerve wrecking, treacherous route!!!!!! mark was "why are we doing this to ourselves?!??!" hahah.. but we'll rem it for life man.. haahha my quadriceps were so tired after tt!!!

reached a small shop for breakfast...had egg maggi =) hot n nice =) ideal for the weary n hungry... keke... slacked arnd for a while.. got super tired haha from the climb, little sleep... tummyache got worse.... began to churn..

when finally reached back the hospital to get our belongings... my tummy was rioting... i jus curled into a fetal position rite @ e entrance for like 15mins.. @1 time the spasm got so painful i was tearing... they almost gave me IM buscopan (injxn)!! i was nonononono... jus gimme tablets.. took n curled somemore.. after awhile the spasms subsided... then i was jus in a blur..everything seemed distant n occuring in slow motion... jus felt weak.. bleah..
they decided to ship me back to HCH.. called a cab...Mary came along w us cos she wanted to drop off @ DD to meet a friend.. Mark was simply elated n overjoyed tt he din have to go on a 5 hr shopping spree w the girls.. Bijoy was disappointed tt Mark ditched him n left him alone.. the rest went off to shop.. LZ din wanna go along w them altho she wanted to shop.. so she went back w us.. somehow she felt abit sick too all of a sudden... hmm wonder why...

left @ 1230, reached back @ 230pm.. the driver is crazy i tell u!! MAD!!! he jus sped down the mountains.. the way he brashly navigated the numerous turns.. i had lotsa bruises on my head!!! i tink mark too! cos we sat@ the sides... my tummy got so bad i couldnt differentiate the gastritic pain from nauseating churning... jeezz~!~!!! almost dieded then n there.. was so super duper happy n relieved when we reached back 'home'.. jus went to my room, changed out n crashed onto my bed for 3 hrs..

arn evening e 2 got Dr Jeff to come arnd to check on me.. He diagnosed colitis... keke..
din eat anything for lunch n dinner.. had to drink 1L of ORS (oral rehydration salt).. was ordered to.. or else i wun take.. okie lar..sweet plus salty then it became bitter! yucks..

better this morning.still crampy..tink gotta start taking antibiotics liao.. jus in case is amoebiasis or giardia...
tried to eat abit todae.. like one handful of rice. for lunch.
damn yucky.
n bland.
bleah.

slept 2hrs in the afternoon.. cldn't take it liao. then met e 2 n came here lor.

goign to Musoorie @ 3pm w like 5-6 other docs.. a whole biog grp. it's a very nice place.. tt's my impression from the photos. can see the himalayas from there! haha i wanna see!!n cold too1!! haha good!!! now getting hotter here liao. bleah...

went on a 'food trip' on thurs w the surgery trainees/registrars (dr jaspreet n dr sema)..got mark n lz to come along too.. squeezed into Jaspreet's car... quite nice. ate hot n spicy indian food which makes ur mouth and tummy explodes.. literally.. had 4 such dishes (@ diff shops) b4 ending w 'indian ice cream' (some weird ice cream which has a funny taste...with white noodles on it... mayb my taste buds r hypersensitive...but taste very weird )..

diarrhea-ed like 5 times yest,...blhea.. ok lar.. jus tt it was surgery day, so i had to keep changing FAST n walk FAST from OT to room n back again... rather use room toilet... the OT one looked ancient.. n no one used it..as far as i noe.. tho it's cleann....

went out again last evening.. ate 1 more dish.. Gold-sthg.. superb! hafta eat it fast! cos there's some spicy sour liquid inside this egg-shaped crust-like fried flour tingy... ate 2 b4 my tummy started to act up..the rest had like 5... Kripa n Juben came along too.. then we went to this Dam which separates 2 states of india. was a v beautiful scenic spot. but photography was not allowed. irritating. my hands were damn itchy ler.. jaspreet says it's to protect the countries from pakistanis. duhz..politics n all.. dumb dumb.. such a pretty sunset n i couldn't get a shot.

better todae. but still diarrhead 2x. took med. better lar... went to get med for my rash.. cos getting bad to worse. had to go make a out-patient card jus to buy the med... now i haf a file here in India.. power sia... haha..

super sleepy todae.. duno why, slept like 7 hrs leh.. which is alot compared to e sleep i'm getting since i came over india.. bleah.. Dr Koshy George = Dr Koshy, e paeds doc i'm shadowing is super duper zai zai!!! he can jus go AnE , look @ a 1-hr old baby for like 1-2 mins, come up w a full diagnosis AND history even without talking to the parents yet. he jus looked at the baby, open up the clothes, then ask me to look carefully n asked me for the diagnosis. i onli came up w respi distress! was meconium aspiration syndrome. zai man.. he's in the list of my top 3 OU XIANG!!!! soon to be no.1... prof yap mite have to share her spot w someone else liao.. keke..
then there were 3 other kids at casualty (AnE) yest, he go in, ACUTE GE/sepsis/severe dehydration/acute renal failure.. all in 1 kid lor!!! another had asthma exacerbation, another had GE/dehydration too.
i'm jus super awed by him... mus study harder!!! if i can absorb like even 1/4 of his power in these few weeks, i'll be damn happy N thankful!!

todae dr Jeff asked abt wat my parents tot when they knew i was coming to india.... heh .. htye were abit surprised and worried... but i guess this is to pave the way for my ultimate goal hahah.... my orphanage!!!! XUAN!!! got the contacts yet?!??!

then he also asked if i would ever consider coming to such an institution to work in the future... OF COURSE man!!! this is wat i'm made for!!! but first i must become powerful.. like 1/4 of Dr KOshy n 1/5 of prof yap... then i'm readyy.. keke..

keep feeding sweets/chewy bars to the kids (esp Conner - 18 mths!!! super cute!!! like Charyne when she was a toddler..bottomless pit...=P ) oh Dr Jeff has 3 kids: Cameron - 5yrs,. Corsette - 4yrs and Conner. think JAnet (wife) is abit exasperated w me.. tee hee.... everytime i see them.. which is like everyday, i give them sthg new from my collection hahahah..which is quite alot.. trust me hahah...(" what am i going to do w the students???" she said the other day.... hee) tahan for 4 more weeks. then we are out of here... hee.. her kids are so so so so CUTE!!!! i took quite a few pics of them haha upload next time...

There's Dr Laji's 3yo son - David... i gave him the toytrain which i won at a lucky draw ( on sat - the Food Mela -> a funfair ting held by the youth fellowship here to raise funds.) he was over the moon hahaha...won a bottle of hair oil too!! quite lucky both times. haha MArk tried once btu din get anythign.. tink LZ tried too..

went for service on sunday. 10am.. so could wake up later! yeah! was in HINDI! onli 3 sentences in eng..so we got quite sleepy.. but there was a 1yo kid in front of me haha so i was playing w him.. haha gave him sweets too ahah.. yah i'm the sweet person haha cool rite? let him play w my Elmo n teddy bear bookmark.. he was v happy n occupied thruout the service haha...=)

the drummer was super zai.! played western drums AND the indian bongos...oh oh!! the guitarist is zai zai man!! they dun wait for the musicians to intro b4 they sing then the guitarist had to catch the keys AND chords impromptu!! super zai zai!! hrhe... but they have no sense of rhythm and timing! ahhaha
played keyboard during fellowship at 6pm.most of the songs i duno one haha n got impromptu songs also haha n some no chords ... tried to catch.. abt rusty haha n the keyboard is super old hahaha n dusty! haha.. adapt lor ahah trying to make frens w the keyboard haha..

dAy 4 - @HCH - pAedS

heh.. todae is day 4 at HCH.
reached here on the 12th aPriL. took the 6.55am train n reached @ 1pm. slept mostly thru the trip..n a good ting too!! cos i was facing oppo e direction of motion 3/4 of e way. would haf been puking my guts out otherwise. but cinnarizine always does the trick. at least thus far.

OHhh!!! er jie!! ttc!! Thai Airways serve SUPERB food. they serve juicy prawns as thick as ur thumb n they are fresh n the sauce is delicious. jus tinkin of them makes me feel hungry =P

tink i'm getting fat from all the 'RiCh' foOdddddd here... it's curry everyday! EVERY MEAL!! veg curry, chicken curry, kidney beans curry, red bean curry, curry curry curry.. n carbo... roti, chapati, rice, dull ( i duno how to spell it but it sounds like tt), nun (another unspellable word)...u get the idea... jus FATS N CARBO!!!
n we are going for a BBQ later.. it's a non-bbq BBQ.. cos the chicken wings are being fried now by the cook instead of being BBQ'd later.. haha dun ask me why..

anyway HCH is a small hospital providing primary care to the community here. it's 1.5hrs from Dehra Dun...which is 6hrs train ride from New Delhi...
there are abt 100 beds in the hospital. the clinics (called OPD here..) are crazy. the hospital itself n accomodation - apartments, hostel are all within e same compound.. n there are security guards guarding the place at nite.. kekeke.. they wear this camouflage jacket ting n jus pop out from nowhere n scared e hell out of me!! hahah..

here's a rough outline of my day:
6.30am: wake up, wait to use toilet...
7.10am: breakfast
8.00am: devotion (short service)
8.30am: (or watever time devotion ends) Ward Rounds (all arn e hospital)
10.30 - 11.00am: OPD
2.30-3.00pm: Lunch
OPD after tt or... hahaha
7.00pm-9.00pm: Dinner

went out w some for the jnr docs on wed - Mary, Sam n Paul..exciting sia!! took rickshaw, (squeezed on it!!), auto rickshaw and bus.. haha hahahahha... super duper dusty... crossed a state from dehra dun to Ponta.. me n lizhen went w them cos mArk went to ROW boat withOUT US!!!!! slacker!!!
anway, we left the compound at arnd 5+pm n reached back arn 9pm. super duper dark!! cos they dun haf streetlamps... i dun even noe wat i was stepping on n i tried not to tink abt it.
e Night sky is SUPER SUPER SUPER SUPER NICE!!!!!! no lights to disrupt the splendid view!!! wwhhheee!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahaha

quite cold at nite. i keep waking up becos it's too cold.. to turn off the fan..
lalala... this internet shop jus outside the compound has damn slow connection..sheesh..but better then nothign i guess...

following Dr Koshy C. George is the paediatrician i'm tagging along these few days. he's damn zai! n he looks like Raj! hahaha. he's super funny and smiley ( most ppl here are NOT smiley.. cos of e conservative culture)

getting used to the punjabi 3-piece suit...dupata (shawl), Salwar (salvar - long top) n kemes (loose baggy pants).... n i tink i'm geting fat.. hahah cos i cant gauge in these pants!!!! no wonder risk of heart attacks n hypertension are higher in Indians.. ooppss sorry.. but it's true leh.. even the docs here say so... cos of the diet..
then again.. those v poor ppl are super thin.. n there are ALOT of kids w Protein/Energy Malnutrition (PEM) n there are alot of syndromes.. which i've never heard of n the book is too thick for my small brain to absorb. haha
e other 2 r having fun in their departments. (lizhen in OnG n mark in Ortho... n there's a guy - Dr Tim Puckett from US who's here for abt 1 mth to spread his knowledge to the ortho ppl here.
they did a L5 nerve root block todae... n NO ONE has ever done it b4.. not even Dr Tim.. haha.. confirm not allowed in Sg one..get sued like crazy..)
